THE HEALING HERD'S Horses & Hearts Club is a welcoming and uplifting program where horses help hearts grow. As part of our Respite in Community Settings (RICS) offerings, H & H Club is designed for youth and adults (18 and older) with developmental disabilities who thrive through hands-on learning, friendship, and meaningful connection.
At the heart of H & H Club are our gentle horses, who serve as patient teachers and loyal friends. Participants learn through engaging, hands-on experiences—grooming, feeding, and leading the horses—while discovering how these simple tasks can build confidence, calm, and a sense of accomplishment.
Beyond horse care, every moment in the barn helps strengthen important life skills such as following directions, communicating clearly, managing emotions, showing kindness, and being part of a team. We celebrate each person’s unique strengths and tailor activities to meet individual abilities, helping everyone shine in their own way.

At THE HEALING HERD, we’re thrilled to introduce Horse Powered Reading®—a one-of-a-kind program that combines the magic of horses with the power of literacy and emotional growth. Beginning in summer of 2026, this program will offer students an engaging way to strengthen reading skills while building confidence, focus, and self-awareness through meaningful, hands-on experiences with horses.
Horse Powered Reading® integrates social-emotional learning with academics, allowing students to see, feel, and experience reading with their whole mind, body, and heart. Working from the ground with our horses, students use fun props and activities to explore the five key components of reading: phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
Each session is unique, guided by the student’s individual needs and strengths. With our trained facilitators using the Eagala Model of Equine Assisted Learning, sessions invite students to:
Across the country, literacy struggles are growing, yet we know that reading can open up entire worlds of opportunity. Programs like Horse Powered Reading® bring hope and creativity to the challenge, making learning come alive in ways that traditional classrooms can’t always reach. By engaging both the heart and mind, students rediscover the joy of learning and the confidence to keep turning the page.

The Family & Me program at TEH HEALING HERD is a gentle, joy-filled experience designed for parents and their young children to spend meaningful time together in the peaceful setting of the farm. These special sessions invite connection, laughter, and learning through shared experiences with our kind and patient horses.
Created especially for children ages five and under, Mommy & Me provides a safe and nurturing space for moms, dads, grandparents, or caregivers to build stronger bonds while exploring the wonders of the barn. Each session is guided by our team and focuses on connection over perfection, and no horse experience is needed.
A typical visit includes hands-on activities such as grooming, brushing, leading, and quiet time together in the barn. Parents and children may enjoy reading a story beside their favorite horse or taking a short, assisted ride at the end for those who just can’t resist the magic of sitting in the saddle. (We understand!)
The heart of this program is about the relationship between parent and child, and between both and the horses who help bring calm, trust, and joy into each moment. It is an ideal fit for families looking for quality time away from screens, as well as for those seeking a safe and supportive environment for planned visitations or therapeutic family bonding.
While originally designed for parents and young children, this program can also be beautifully tailored for senior citizens in memory care and senior living facilities, offering gentle interaction, sensory engagement, and moments of calm connection with our horses. These adapted sessions bring smiles, spark memories, and create a soothing space for companionship and emotional well-being.
Please note that this is not a riding lesson program and many sessions last approximately 60 minutes.. Most activities take place safely on the ground, allowing participants to connect with the horses in ways that build confidence, curiosity, and gentle responsibility.
